Davka and your health data: Apple Health and Health Connect

Davka writes three things to the health data of your phone: water, caffeine and the nutrients of the supplements you log. On iPhone to Apple Health, on Android to Health Connect. It only writes and reads nothing from them.

What does Davka write?

Three things: water, caffeine and the nutrients of the supplements you log. Nutrients are written only when Apple Health (the Health app on iPhone) or Health Connect has a matching type. For items from the catalog that is, for example, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc or vitamin C. A custom supplement with its ingredients entered writes the nutrients Apple Health or Health Connect knows; items without a matching type are not written.

When does Davka write?

At the moment you log water, caffeine or a supplement in the app. The date and time of the entry go with it, so a day you fill in later appears in Apple Health and in Health Connect on its own day.

What happens when I undo or delete an entry?

Its record in Apple Health or in Health Connect is deleted too. An edited entry is replaced there with a new one.

How do I turn writing on or off?

Writing is on by default, but nothing is written until the system has the permission. On iPhone: the permission is given in the iOS dialog, for each data type separately, and you can change it any time in iPhone Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Davka. The writing itself you turn on or off in the app, in Settings, in the Apple Health row, by tapping its state. On Android: the Health Connect dialog appears the first time you open Home, and you can change the permission any time in Health Connect > App permissions > Davka. The writing itself you turn on or off in the app, in Settings, in the Health Connect row. On a phone without Health Connect that row offers to open Health Connect in Google Play.

Does Davka read data from Apple Health or Health Connect?

No. The app only writes to them and reads nothing from either, on iPhone or on Android. Davka collects and sends no data and has no account and no servers of its own; more is in the privacy policy.

Where does writing work?

On iPhone with Apple Health. On a device without Apple Health, for example a Mac with Apple silicon where Davka runs as an iPad app, the Apple Health row in Settings only explains that Apple Health is not available there, and nothing is written. On Android with Health Connect: from Android 14 it is part of the system, on Android 9 to 13 you install it from Google Play. Without Health Connect nothing is written.

Since when does Davka write to Apple Health and to Health Connect?

On iPhone since the first version of the app, on Android since version 1.0.7.
